The Capella Mallorquina continues the great musical work created by Joan M. Thomàs, the "Classic Capella", considered in its time, one of the most important chorales, according to important Spanish musicians such as Manuel de Falla, Joaquín Rodrigo, or Xavier Montsalvatge, among others. The present chorale was founded by Bernat Julià in 1966, making its first performance on 8 of June in the chapel of Santa Ana in the Palace of the Almudaina, in Palma de Mallorca. Since then it has offered numerous concerts, exceeding 1.000 in number, and has a repertoire of more than 800 works.
Since it was founded, the choir has performed in all the Balearic Island towns as well as in numerous cities throughout Spain.
It has also performed in the most important capitals of the world: Berlin, Lisbon, London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Vienna, Moscow, London, Paris, Bonn, Cologne, Munich, Prague, Warsaw, Sophia, Bucharest, Budapest, Rome, Zurich, Bern, Geneva, Athens, Istanbul, Cairo, Beijing, Havana, New York, Washington, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, etc.
Both national and international music critics, as well as composers, musicians and directors, have praised the high vocal standard of the formation: in a performance in New York the prestigious critic of the New York Times, Vernon Sherwin, commented "the Capella is a vocal group equal to the best choirs of Europe." Likewise, the famous composer Alberto Ginastera, after listening to a performance in Formentor, wrote in the Capella’s visitor’s book: "I can affirm that the Capella Mallorquina is one of the greatest international chorales of our time".
Other critics have not hesitated to voice their admiration: "impressive Choir" (Free Midi, France), "a concert of great quality" (Daily Times, London), "perfect Technique and a great concept of interpretation" (Washington Post, Washington), "Great perfection" (the Derniere Heure, Belgium), "One of the best choirs than we have listened to" (Malmoe Tidninge, Sweden), "Delicate way of interpreting music “a capella" (Magyar Hizlap, Budapest), "Instrument of high quality" (Il Tempo, Rome), "Purity of interpretation and expressiveness" (France Soir, Paris), "surprising polyphonic refinement" (Daily of Soria), "True artistic event" (Dairo, Lisbon), "excellent cohesion, independence and wealth of timbre... Juan Carlos & Doña. Sofia, King & Queen of Spain, Palma), and a long etc.
The choir has performed consistently with prestigious orchestras, soloists and directors, it has recorded several CDs and radio and TV habitually broadcast its concerts. The choir has also performed numerous new works of contemporary composers.

In 1999, when Bernat Julià left the direction of the Capella, the choral group came under the orders of one of the most outstanding young musical talents within the Majorcan musical panorama, José María Moreno, thus guaranteeing the continuity of the most important task developed by the choir’s creator. Under the guidance of the new director, the Capella renewed its group, incorporating new voices with the objective of maintaining the high standard left by his predecessor.
